Who We Are
NPL Legal is the trading name of Nwokedi & Partners (Legal) Limited, a private limited company incorporated in England and Wales under company number 10385604, whose registered office is at 14 New Street, London EC2M 4TR. A list of our directors is open to inspection at our registered office during normal office hours.
Our solicitors are regulated by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority (“SRA”).
Raise a Concern With Us, In Case Anything Is Wrong
We aim to give every client a clear, considered and courteous service. If any part of that service has fallen short of what you expected, we would like to hear from you at the earliest opportunity so that we may put matters right.
In the first instance, please raise your concern with the fee earner acting on your matter, who will do everything they can to resolve it. If, having done so, you remain dissatisfied, or if you would prefer to address your concerns to somebody else within the firm, please write to our Complaints Partner, Francis Nwokedi, at 14 New Street, London EC2M 4TR, or by email to lhines@npllegal.com, marking your correspondence "Complaint — For the Attention of the Complaints Partner".
We will acknowledge your complaint in writing within five working days of receiving it, investigate the matter fully, and send you our substantive written response within eight weeks. If for any reason we are unable to conclude our investigation within that period, we will write to you in advance to explain why and to give you a realistic timescale within which our final response can be expected.
If you Remain Dissatisfied — The Legal Ombudsman and the SRA
If you are unhappy with our final written response, or if eight weeks have passed since you first brought your complaint to us without the matter being resolved, you may refer your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman. The Legal Ombudsman provides a free and independent service to eligible complainants, which broadly means members of the public, small businesses of fewer than ten employees with an annual turnover or balance sheet not exceeding €2 million, charities, clubs and trusts falling within its published financial thresholds.
A complaint should ordinarily be brought to the Legal Ombudsman within six months of the date of our final written response to you, and, in any event, no later than one year from the date of the act or omission complained of, or one year from the date on which you should reasonably have known that there was cause for complaint. The Legal Ombudsman can be contacted at PO Box 6806, Wolverhampton WV1 9WJ, by telephone on 0300 555 0333, by email at enquiries@legalombudsman.org.uk, or through its website at www.legalombudsman.org.uk.
The Legal Ombudsman deals with concerns about the standard of service that we have provided. If, separately, your concern relates to our professional conduct — for example, an allegation of dishonesty, discrimination, or a breach of the SRA Principles — you are entitled to report the matter directly to the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Guidance on how to do so, together with the SRA’s contact details, is available at www.sra.org.uk/consumers.
Governing Law and Further Information
Our engagement with each client, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it, is governed by the law of England and Wales and is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, save where our client care letter or terms of business expressly provide otherwise. Copies of our standard terms of business and of our complaints handling procedure are available on request and are provided to every client at the outset of the retainer.
